Peter C. Proestakes, Assistant Director

Peter C. Proestakes is an assistant director of technical activities at the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB). In that role, he is involved with various technical projects, including those related to Revenue Recognition, Insurance, Consolidations, Postretirement Benefits, and The Accounting Standards Codification. He joined the FASB’s research and technical activities staff in January 2003. During his tenure with the FASB he led several technical projects, including FASB Statement No. 158, Employers’ Accounting for Defined Benefit Pension and Other Postretirement Plans, and FASB Statement No. 132 (revised 2003), Employers’ Disclosures about Pensions and Other Postretirement Benefits.

Before joining the FASB, Mr. Proestakes was with Gartner, Inc. for two years as Senior Director of Financial Reporting. Prior to his post at Gartner, Inc., he was with Champion International Corporation for 19 years, where he served as Director of Accounting. In that role, his responsibilities included consolidation, financial reporting, technical accounting matters, and accounting policies. He began his accounting career in the Stamford, Connecticut office of Arthur Young and Company (now Ernst and Young).

Mr. Proestakes graduated from Fairfield University in Connecticut with a B.S. degree in accounting and is a CPA in Connecticut.
